Luxury Lodge Photography // The Point

When the property owners of The Point asked us to shoot some brand new imagery and video for their luxury lodge accommodation in Pigeon Bay we were delighted. The Point is an of-the-grid cliff top retreat in the Banks Peninsula. We met with Penny in advance of the shoot to discuss her photography requirements and to see this beautiful property for ourselves. It’s always handy to have a recce of the site before booking in a shoot. We like to understand what our clients expectations are for their new content. We agreed that a full day shoot would be best to capture the light as it moves around the property.

On the day of the shoot we arrived as the sun was coming up. We like to experience the hotels and lodges we photograph as if we were a guest (even if just for the day!). As Penny was travelling overseas she had kindly arranged for some of our requested props for styling. It’s always really handy to have beach towels, wine (various), local cheese etc to sell the dream during a shoot. When potential guests view holiday accommodation imagery they like to imagine themselves there! We find wine and cheese works well for this and in the morning you can’t beat a freshly baked pastry and strong coffee.

The property is located on an isolated point that juts out into the bay. Our drone captured the location of the lodge perfectly.

Breakfast outside at The Point on a large rustic dining table. Almond pastries and a good book are holiday essentials. Before a shoot we usually grab a few bits and pieces from home like books, placemats etc that we think might work well for styling. The photos needed to communicate that this was a relaxing retreat with a private beach.

Even the hallways at The Point are interesting to photograph as they lead into beautiful bedrooms and an outdoor bath tub.

Imagine you’re here, with this view… drinking rosé all day.

Working around the peak season for travel and tourism means that often we will be asked to refresh imagery in the winter time. The key thing is to make the photos look like it’s warm and sunny even if it’s not. We do this by making the most of the natural light that’s available to us!

This way to the private beach… When we shoot for website designers we make sure that we capture lots of little details that can be used creatively across the site.

Robin’s drone photography really captures the outstanding beauty of this incredible property and it’s private cove.

As the evening light spills into the the lounge, we light the fires both inside and out to capture the cosy vibe… strategically placing another client’s product in the shot. We feel that people who stay at The Point would appreciate a bottle of Vins de Paille by Prophets Rock in front of a roaring fire!

“We needed new material for our new website to promote our sustainable property to the right people. R+A Creative understood our brand and came up with a way to communicate our ethos consistently through photography and video. They delivered a set of high-quality images we could use across The Point website, the Bachcare website and as a bank of images for our social media. Robin and Andie were a pleasure to work with - the perfect combination of professional and friendly.”
